Eugene Demler visits SCL

On Wednesday, 4 September 2023, our lab hosted Eugene Demler, an outstanding outstanding theoretical physicist working on a wide range of topics in the field of strongly correlated quantum systems, and our members had the opportunity to discuss many topics of condensed matter physics with our guest.

These include high-temperature superconductors, antiferromagnets, quantum Hall systems, Bose-Einstein condensates, topological insulators, and time crystals. His pioneering work shaped the new field of quantum simulators, using ultracold atoms in optical lattices to simulate solid-state systems. He also employed these new methods to analyze quantum many-body systems out of equilibrium. Moreover, his research led to new methods to optically control the properties of complex materials (e.g., amplification of superconductivity) and to novel photonic nanodevices (e.g., optical transistors that can be controlled by a single photon).

Dr. Demler was hosted one day after giving a popular lecture in the Serbian Academy of Arts and Sciences entitled

Quantum Simulators: Pointillist Perspective on Many-Body Physics

which focused on experimental emulators of Hubbard model, properties of doped Mott insulators, correlated magnetic pairs and study of kinetic magnetism from experiments involving ultracold atoms in an optical lattice based on muare (moiré) materials.

Eugene Delmer is one of the leading experts in the area of strongly correlated systems, and also one of the top 1% most cited scientists.
