SCL at ICTP Advanced HPC/GRID School 2011
SCL's Antun Balaz, Vladimir Slavnic, and Milan Zezelj attended the "Advanced School in High Performance and Grid Computing" organized by the International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) in Trieste, Italy from 11 to 22 April 2011. As in previous years, SCL had an important role in organization of this event: Antun Balaz was one of the school directors and lecturers, together with Stefano Cozzini and Giuliano Taffoni, while Vladimir Slavnic was one of the tutors and helped with hands-on sessions and exercises.
The focus of the school was on parallel and GPU programming, data management, profiling and optimization of scientific codes which require computing resources available through High Performance Computing (HPC) or Grid infrastructures. During the first week of the school participants were introduced to the advanced programming models and optimization techniques, while the emphasis of the second week was placed on work on their individual projects through software, hardware and GRID laboratories, with the help and guidance of the tutors. At the end of the school participants had an opportunity to present achieved results and Milan Zezelj presented his work on "Parallel Implementation of a Monte Carlo Molecular Simulation Program".
