Jovana Petrovic from the The Vinča Institute of Nuclear Sciences presented a seminar:
"Fibre-grating sensors for applications in cardio and respiration monitoring "
Abstract:
Fibre gratings are periodic changes in the refractive index or geometry of the fibre. They have characteristic attenuation bands in the transmission spectrum or peaks in the reflection spectrum that are sensitive to the environmental parameters and forces applied to the fibre. I will present our recent work on application of long-period grating sensors of bending in measuring of respiratory volumes. These measurements should enhance mechanical ventilation by providing an accurate and timely feedback to the ventilator. I shall also briefly report on the most recent results on heart-function monitoring by synchronized long-period grating sensors, electrocardiograph and phonocardiograph.
