As a part of the HP-SEE project activities, Scientific Computing Laboratory of Institute of Physics Belgrade hosted a visit of researchers from Faculty of Chemistry of the University of Belgrade (FCUB) and Institute of Chemistry, Technology and Metallurgy of the University of Belgrade (ICTM) on 1 July 2011. Purpose of this visit was to introduce guests to different parallel programming techniques through the usage of practical examples.

During this crash course, SCL's Vladimir Slavnic gave an introductory presentation of modern computer architectures, parallel paradigms and programming models after which two practical sessions followed:

• Distributed memory approach session - in which MPI code examples were discussed and tested,
• Shared memory approach session - in which OpenMP code samples were analyzed.
