High-Performance Computing Infrastructure for South East European Research Communities initiative aims, through the HP-SEE project, to open regional HPC installations to cross-border research, and to establish mechanism for interfacing to the pan-European HPC initiatives. The Scientific Computing Laboratory of the Institute of Physics Belgrade has joined this initiative as the referent institution for high-performance computing development in Serbia, appointed to represent the country in all European HPC and Grid-related projects.

SCL's Aleksandar Belic, Antun Balaz, and Dusan Vudragovic participated in the official HP-SEE kick-off meeting which was held at GRNET in Athens, Greece from 6 to 8 September 2010. During the meeting, Antun Balaz was appointed as a leader of dissemination and training activities (project's workpackage WP3) and presented the initial plan for HP-SEE promotion, communication, training and dissemination, and identified and assigned actions that will ensure quality of this activity. In addition, as application developer within the Computational Physics Virtual Research Community session (project's workpackage WP4), he presented his work on numerical study of ultra-cold quantum gases as a major HPC application being developed by SCL, aiming to give numerical description of parametric resonance effects in BECs, effects of disorder, and Bose-glass phase transition.

As a project contractor for Serbia, SCL will lead WP3 and will be also involved in other workpackages of the HP-SEE project, which were presented by the appointed activity leaders. SCL will also coordinate work of its 3rd parties from Serbia in the project: Belgrade University Computer Centre (RCUB), which will contribute in the development within the workpackage WP8, and Faculty of Chemistry of the University of Belgrade (FCUB), which will be mainly involved in Computational Chemistry Virtual Research Community within WP4.
