Dusan Keres visits SCL
Dusan Keres, an astrophysicist from Harvard University's Center for Astrophysics (CfA) spent a day at the Scientific Computing Laboratory (SCL). He was given an overview of existing HPC facilities at SCL by Prof. Balaz. The main discussion topics during the visit were the prospects for the creation of a new research group at the Institute of Physics Belgrade (IPB) in the fields of cosmology and astrophysics. The proposed Laboratory for Cosmology and Astrophysics (LCAp) would be structurally modeled on SCL and would have strong ties to the existing research unit. dr Keres was particularly interested in the progress of the National Supercomputing Initiative, and specifically in the Blue Danube supercomputing facility to be located at the IPB. Prof. Bogojevic and Belic discussed with our guest concrete steps to be taken so as to optimally use LCAp and Blue Danube as focal points for the reintegration of a group of young scientists working in astriphysics. On a related note dr Keres was informed about SCL participation in European and other international projects, particularly the possibilities existing within Framework Project 7 for reintegration of young scientists working abroad.
