SCL Seminar by Marina Radulaški

You are cordially invited to the SCL seminar of the Center for the Study of Complex Systems, which will be held on Wednesday, 22 May 2019 at 14:00 in the library reading room “Dr. Dragan Popović" of the Institute of Physics Belgrade. The talk entitled

Quantum photonics incorporating color centers in silicon carbide and diamond

will be given by Prof. Marina Radulaški (University of California, Davis, USA). Abstract of the talk:

Silicon carbide and diamond color centers are promising systems for quantum communication, spintronics and sensing with both room temperature and cryogenic operation. Their integration with nanophotonic devices, such as nanopillars and photonic crystal cavities, leads to enhanced light and matter interaction, Purcell regime and potentially novel effects in cavity quantum electrodynamics. Fabrication of these devices requires advanced material processing. Following up on this challenge, in this talk we will present progress on developing scalable and efficient quantum nanophotonic platforms with applications in quantum communication and computing.

Furthermore, we will discuss theoretical insights from multi-emitter cavity models based on color center ensembles. The small inhomogeneous broadening of these ensembles is leveraged to theoretically achieve collective coupling to a common cavity. Such regime not only exhibits arbitrarily high light-matter interaction, but also holds novel quantum light generating mechanisms. In addition to the conventional photon blockade that results in a steam of individual photons, multi-emitter cavity systems can facilitate the so-called subradiant photon blockade with higher purity of single-photons needed for quantum key distribution.
