SCL Seminar by Teodor Vrecica
SCL seminar of the Center for the Study of Complex Systems will be held on Thursday, 13 December 2018 at 14:00 in the library reading room “Dr. Dragan Popović" of the Institute of Physics Belgrade. The talk entitled
"Nonlinear and Linear Surface Water Waves"
will be given by Teodor Vrećica (Marine Engineering and Physics Laboratory, School of Mechanical Engineering, Tel Aviv University, Israel).
Abstract of the talk:
We will give a quick overview of water waves, with a particular focus on nonlinear interactions and infragravity waves. Some common problems and solutions of wave evolution will be presented, and we will also give a summary of operational modelling and measurement in this context. Next, following the mild slope approach, we will derive deterministic and stochastic models of wave evolution, fitting for implementation into operational forecasting models. We will show that interaction of waves with varying bathymetry can have interesting effects, and demonstrate a new generation method of infragravity waves, related to interaction of wave field with subgrid oscillations of wind speed. Initial comparison of model data with measurements shows good agreement. Finally, we will briefly present advances in field measurements and analysis of wave data.
