Tuning and Optimization of HPC Application training

Scientific Computing Laboratory organized a training event called “Tuning and Optimization of HPC Applications for HPC user community” on 1 June 2012. The goals of the training sessions were to introduce high performance computing applications, data and visualization resources available at SCL and to present the programming skills necessary to use HPC resources effectively and efficiently. During the training sessions, an in-depth assistance was offered to inexperienced users, including hands-on exercises with their own codes and collaborative discussions with participants from different scientific fields and experienced SCL members. Libraries available on PARADOX cluster were presented along with some code profiling and debugging tools needed by developers for analyzing and identifying critical sections of the code (Gprof, Valgrind, Scalasca, Totalview and TAU). The training event aimed at enhancing the knowledge of current HPC users, as well as engaging and encouraging new user communities to use HPC infrastructure.
