SCL at Particle Physics MasterClass 2011

The International Particle Physics MasterClass Belgrade 2011 was organized by the University of Belgrade, in collaboration with the European Particle Physics Outreach Group, and was held on 14 March 2011. SCL's Antun Balaz gave a short talk to high school students on Grid computing and its applications in particle physics.

The aim of the MasterClass is to introduce an exciting and rapidly developing scientific field dealing with some of the fundamental secrets of the nature to the 4th-year high school students. The lectures given by active researchers and university professors bring insight into topics and methods of fundamental research of matter, elementary particles and forces acting between them, thus enabling students to perform exercises with the real data from specific particle physics experiments.

During the same day, students are also able to get a feeling of the university life and experience first hand some of research being performed at three Serbian scientific institutions: "Vinca" Institute of Nuclear Sciences, Faculty of Physics, and Institute of Physics Belgrade. At the end of the programme, students have the opportunity to take part in the videoconference and discuss their results with other students and scientists across Europe, participating in simultaneous events.
